How to make choosing a wedding venue a piece of cake

You’re getting maarrriieed! This is a fun and exciting time, but also stressful. There’s just so. many. details. Let’s make choosing your wedding venue easy.

Don’t break your budget

Your budget’s the easiest filter to start with. Don’t torture yourself with a wedding venue that costs too much. After the wedding day is over, you’ll be thrilled to spend that extra money on your honeymoon or first home—or even as a buffer in your bank account.

Choose extra capacity

It’s a good rule of thumb to plan as if every guest will show up. You don’t want to end up short on space. Count on at least 83% of your list arriving. However, many times people who didn’t RSVP still come, so be sure to pick a wedding venue that accommodates for most guests invited.

Factor in what’s not included

Factor in what’s not included in your venue rental. Like:

  • Decorations, chairs, tables and tablecloths. Will you have to provide these yourself?

  • Flat rate or hourly rate. If the party’s going strong at 11pm, are you willing to pay for another hour or two?

  • Parking. Is it free or do you need to provide transportation?

  • Caterer. Can you use the caterer of your choice or must you use the venue’s exclusive caterer?

  • Hidden costs. Tax and tips tack on extra dollars.

Decide your season

To decide what time of year you want to get married in, consider everything from photos to comfort.

Have you always envisioned a colorful autumn backdrop for photos? Or maybe you don’t care about outdoor scenery and just want to make sure you’re not too cold or hot. Use what’s important to you to decide your wedding season.

Once you know your time of year, it’s much easier to choose an indoor or outdoor wedding venue—or both!

If you’re going with a wedding between January - April 2023, you can lock in a gorgeous Wisconsin venue at up to 50% off the regular venue rental rate, plus get additional mark downs on other wedding vendors.

Stay open to different styles

It’s easy to fall in love with a style you found online, but you may surprise yourself once you visit venues. You may think you want a high-class, black-tie wedding, but end up loving the look and feel of an upscale barn venue. Or you may be leaning towards a DIY boho wedding but change your mind after visiting a stately, traditional venue.

Ask yourself what you immediately like and dislike and go from there.

Consider convenience

How close is the venue to hotels where guests are staying? Does the venue provide a comfortable spot for you and the bridal party to get ready? What about breakfast? Consider the entire experience for you and guests when choosing your wedding venue.

Happy wedding!
